Frank and Joe walked down the street with
Jason in the middle of them. Suddenly, a funny thought struck Frank and
he started laughing. Joe and Jason looked at him questioningly.
"I was just thinking," Frank started to say to Jason, but was interrupted by Joe. "Big Brother, you're always thinking!" He grinned and Frank looked at him disapprovingly. "It's rude to interrupt, brat." He looked back down at Jason. "As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted, I was thinking about how I always call Joe, 'Baby Brother'. He always used to get mad because he had no one to call baby brother. But now, he can call you 'Baby Brother' and the twins 'Baby Sister'! And, I'll have three more siblings to refer to as 'baby'!" Both Frank and Joe started laughing, and even Jason grinned. When the laughter died down, Joe, with a twinkle in his eyes, asked Jase, "Hey, baby bro, are you ready to meet some new friends?" Jason nodded, and they walked up to a group of boys and girls playing in a yard. "Hey kids!" Frank said. "Hi!" all the kids cried in unison. They adored the Hardy brothers and looked up to them. "Hey guys, have you fought any big bad wolves with super powered ray guns lately?" One of the boys asked them eagerly. Frank and Joe laughed. "No Jaime," Joe said, ruffling Jaime's hair, "not lately." "Who's he?" another girl asked them. "This Lizzie," Frank said, "is our new younger brother. His name is Jason and he is the same age as you guys. Do you guys want to be friends?" he asked. All the boys and girls nodded excitedly, glad to have another join their pack. "Man," Joe thought to himself, "little kids sure are inviting. They just immediately took Jason in!" He grinned. "Well, then, we should get you guys acquainted!" "What's acqua-?" Jaime asked, trying to say the word, but failing. "Sorry!" Joe laughed. "I forgot that you don't know big words yet!" "Yes, I do," another little girl named Jenny, said. "Look, I can spell the word story! S-T-O-R-I!" She grinned satisfactorily. "Y," Frank said automatically. "Why?" Jenny asked, puzzled. "Never mind," Frank shook his head in laughing. Little kids were hilarious. "Kids, this is Jason. Jason, this is Jaime, Lizzy, Jenny, Jill, and Larry." He rattled off names as he pointed to each child. "Can Jason play with us now?" Larry asked them. "No, we're going to have to leave. Maybe tomorrow, okay?" Joe said. They all nodded and soon, the three were on their way to Mr. Pizza. "Hi guys!" Tony called as they walked in. Then he frowned, puzzled. "Who's he?" he asked, nodding towards Jason. "Hi Tone," Frank replied. "I'll tell you in a minute. I want to tell everybody at the same time. They are all here, aren't they?" he asked looking around. "They should be since it is our regular meeting time." "Yea, they're here. They are all over there," Tony replied pointing. "All right. You are joining us, right?" Frank asked. "Yea, as soon as I get our order." Frank and Joe took Jason over to the table where all their friends were sitting. "Hi guys! Wassap?" Joe greeted all his friends. He slid into the booth next to Vanessa Bender, his girlfriend. "Hey Babe," he murmured in her ear and nuzzled her neck for a minute. Frank slid in next to his girlfriend, Callie Shaw and greeted her along with all his other friends. Jason slid in tentatively next to Frank and tugged on his arm. Frank leaned down and Jason whispered something in his ear. Frank then whispered something back and sat straight again. "Hi there!" Vanessa said to Jason, smiling warmly at him. Jason gave her a small smile back in return. Callie turned to Frank. "Who is he?" she asked, nodding at Jason. "Tell you guys in a minute," Frank replied. Just then Tony came up and put two large pies on the table and the waitress came over with everyone's usual drinks. A Coke for Callie, Frank, and Biff, Sprite for Vanessa and Phil, and Tony, and a Dr. Pepper for Joe and Chet. Everyone started to dig in, but Frank turned to Jason and carefully held out a slice for him. Jason took it and started to eat. After everyone's tummy was slightly full with a slice, they immediately fixed their attention to Frank and Joe. "All right, so what's the story?" Allen "Biff" Hooper asked the brothers. "Okay. Guys, this is Jason. He is our new brother," Joe said. Everyone stared at him. He grinned at Frank and then said, "Hang on, I'll explain." He told them everything that had happened over the last week or so, and slowly, understanding dawned on everybody's face. During this time, Jason kept eating, and towards the end, tugged on Frank's arm. Frank turned to him. "Hmm?" he asked. "I'm thirsty. Can I have something to drink?" he asked. "Of course," Frank said quickly. He quickly gave Jason his Coke and watched as Jason took a couple of sips. After putting the glass back on the table, he gave a small burp. "Excuse me," he said, and patted his stomach satisfyingly. He then smiled charmingly at everyone and waved. "Hello, everybody," he said and smiled at all of them again. He seemed to be opening up. Everyone laughed and responded as one. "Hi Jason!" Frank and Joe started to introduce everyone. "K, Jason, this Callie, Tony, Phil, Biff, Vanessa, and Chet," Frank said, pointing to each person as he said their name. "Guys," Joe said, "this is Jason." Everyone smiled again, and soon everyone was fussing over him. He seemed to love the attention. All to soon, it came time to leave. "Why don't you guys come over around 2 o'clock tomorrow and y'all can play with the twins and Jason? Is that okay?" Frank asked. Everyone and soon plans were finalized. The three brothers arrived home quickly and found out the girls had woken up. The entire family had the time playing with the girls for a while, but all to soon, it was time for Jason to go to bed. Frank and Joe decided to put him to sleep and stood by him as he brushed his teeth and put on his pajamas. They took him to his room and tucked him under Superman covers. Then the two of them kissed him on the forehead and started to leave. But Jason stopped them. "My daddy always used to sing me a lullaby before I went to sleep. Will you sing one to me?" he asked them. Frank and Joe looked at each other. They both had wonderful Baritone voices, and they decided to sing a special song their mother had sung to them when they were small. She had learned it from an Indian friend of hers and they still knew it by heart. They went next to Jason and started to hum. Then they started the song. "So ja chanda, Raja so ja, (Go to sleep Moon, go to sleep my prince) Chal sapno mein chal (Go to the world of dreams) Neend ke pariyaan pehen ke aaye pairon mein payal (The fairies of sleep come wearing ankle bracelets) Tujko apni naram paron par lekar jayenge, (They will take you away on their beautiful wings) Sone ka ek desh hai jiski seher karayenge." (There is a city of gold, and they will show you around it) They ended the song and smiled as they saw Jason's eyes flutter, then closed. They kissed him on the forehead softly, before leaving the room. Laura, who had heard the entire thing smiled. In that moment, somehow, she knew everything would be all right.
