Joe stumbled and tripped over something large. He banged his head on the edge of a chest and stubbed his toe on the bottom of it. Crying and gasping, he stood up and hugged his arms to his chest looking fearfully around. He didn't see Bea anymore but he could hear some one breathing.

Suddenly something feathery brushed against his neck making him shriek and duck away. He crouched next to the chest and cried hard. Something completely black and huge was moving towards him from the other side of the attic. It made no sound and seemed to move with great ease.

Joe sat on his heels with his arms squeezing his sides. He opened his mouth and screamed as the black figure seemed to kneel down to face him. For a split second he saw the face of a man snarling like an animal at him with one side of its face blown off.

Joe shut his eyes tight, dropped his head and screamed over and over again.

Running footsteps sounded up the stairs and suddenly the attic was bathed in warm yellow light from the hall. A figure halted in the doorway and then ran into the room and over to Joe. Joe backed away and cowered against the chest as Simon lifted the him into his arms.

Simon looked around the attic and saw only the usual odds and ends. He frowned and held the little boy in concern. Joe was shaking so hard it was disturbing.

"What's wrong, Joey? What's happened? Its all right, its all right" a lump came to Simon's throat as he carried Joe downstairs and tried to calm him down. He looked around for Frank and found him standing at the bottom of the stairs looking horrified.

"Why weren't you with him, Frank?" Simon almost shouted. "He’s almost hysterical. What happened to Bea?"

Frank shuddered and took a breath. "I went to the bathroom and when I tried to open the bathroom door I couldn't get out. I thought some one was killing him. I couldn't get out to help."

Frank reached out and rubbed Joe's back as tears came to his eyes. There was no sign of Bea anywhere in the house and Joe wouldn't speak about what had happened to him. He clung to Simon and Frank for the rest of the evening.

Penny returned home looking worried, having received a call from Simon during her practice. She went to the living room to find her brothers watching the news. Joe was sitting in the middle looking very pale. She rushed over to him.

"Are you okay, Sweetie?" she scooped her littlest brother into a hug. He didn't answer, but held to her tightly. Tears stung her eyes as she looked questioningly at Simon and Frank.

"He hasn't spoken since I took him out of the attic" stated Simon. "Something really scared him. I think he’s still in shock. He doesn't like going upstairs. I think we’re all going to have to sleep down here tonight!"
