THE CHAPTERS
"I wish we were back home with Mom and Dad!" moaned Joe as the wind tossed him in his perch next to Frank.
The moon stole beneath the clouds leaving them in total darkness again. The creature below disappeared from view and the night was silent except for the occasional hoot of an owl.
"Should we get down?" asked Joe as Frank peered down trying to see into the dark wood.
"I don’t know if that wolf is gone or not. Lets stay up here till the moon comes out from the clouds again." said Frank as he tried to get comfortable.
The boys waited for what seemed like hours. Joe's left foot went to sleep and Franks leg began to cramp up. Then the moon shone through the woods to reveal a clear path to the house with no creature in sight. The boys slowly climbed down and cautiously looked around but saw nothing. Not taking any chances they ran all the way back to the house and didn’t relax until they had the door locked and bolted.
Joe turned on most of the lights and returned to join Frank in the bedroom they were sharing.
"You’re wasting electricity you know." said Frank frowning at Joe.
"I’ll pay Morgan back. I just think we should have some lights on in case we need them, that's all." Joe changed into his pajamas and crawled under the covers.
Frank turned out the lamp on the bed stand between them. He lay in the darkness listening to the strange noises of the house. Frank dozed off into a worried sleep and woke suddenly during the night. He sat up and listened intently trying to work out what had woken him. With a sudden horror he heard the unmistakable snuffling sounds of a large animal coming from the base of the door to their room.
