Hurd Applegate: Helping to find Mr. Applegate’s lost ‘treasure’ was Frank and Joe’s first real “case”. The wealthy, eccentric, elderly owner of the Tower Mansion, Mr. Applegate is an avid stamp collector. Stooped, graying, thin, and acerbic, Hurd and his sister Adelia, eventually become quite fond of the boys.
