Gertrude Hardy: Fenton's much-older sister Gertrude is a formidable foe in her own right. Tall and angular, with wire-rimmed spectacles, she disapproves of her nephews' involvement with investigations, and considers it her duty to warn them away from dangerous situations; but is, in fact, very proud of their exploits. She is known as one of the best cooks in Bayport, and is therefore one of Chet Morton's favorite people. 

Gertrude's character has changed considerably over the years, and she has mellowed quite a bit. From being someone who occasionally dropped in on the Hardys for lengthy visits, she became a permanent resident in their home, and her waspish disposition less abrasive. In one of the more recent digests, it was noted that Gertrude participated in protest rallies during the 1960's, along with her African-American boyfriend, and had the nickname of "Spitfire."

 

The Hardy Boys belong to Simon and Schuster and the Stratemeyer Foundation. The Hardy Boys Fan Fiction authors of the Hardy Detective Agency have just borrowed them for an adventure or two.
