As the evening progressed, Shane realized that he was being irrational. Tony seemed to be a really nice guy, just a natural born flirt like his friend Joe. ‘I’m starting to get as bad as Dad!’ Shane shook his head and hoped that he hadn’t embarrassed Miracle too much with his antics. He decided to leave his sister and new friends alone to finish with their homework. Since he was supposed to be looking for a book, Shane grabbed the first book he saw.

“Finally found what I was looking for!” Shane grinned as he waved the book in the air. Then he caught the strange look on Miracle’s face and his grin faltered.

“You were looking for that book?” Miracle asked in a dubious voice.

“Yeah, why do you ask?”

“You wanted to read the Reproductive Organs of the Female Body?!”

Still holding the book up, Shane stole a quick glance at the title and cringed. He could feel himself flushing with embarrassment, especially when he saw how the boys were trying not to laugh.

“Well…um…I’m going to leave now…good luck with your English assignment!”

Tucking the book into his arm, Shane made a hasty exit. Miracle looked over at Joe. “Are all older brothers this weird?”

Frank glared over at his brother. “Don’t even answer that!”

Joe just smiled sweetly at Frank.

After Frank had given him the information he found out from Shane Reynolds. Fenton began a background search on all current and former employees who had worked at Reynolds Inc. at the time of Miracle’s kidnapping. He also wanted to find out what had become of John and Clare Dixon.

That Saturday found Miracle at the mall with Callie. Minerva had tagged along, but she kept a discreet distance away from the girls, far away enough to let Miracle enjoy herself but not too far away if an emergency arose.

Although Frank hadn’t told her everything, he did tell Callie that Miracle had to take things slow. With that thought in mind, Callie walked slowly and made sure to stop and rest as much as possible. As they entered on of the many clothing stores, Callie noticed a young man, who seemed to be following them. Noticing that the store was on floor down and across the hallway from the food court, Callie took out her cell phone.

“Oh, I’m so glad you answered, Tony!”

{“Hey Callie, something wrong?”}

“I’m not sure. Miracle and I are at The Gap, and I think we’re being followed!”

{“Are you sure?”}

“Yes and no…since you’re just above us; can you come and take a look?”

{“Sure, no problem, it’s not that busy yet. Who am I looking for?”}

“Tall, skinny with light brown hair…and he’s dressed all in black!”

{“Okay, hey, I got some help. Biff just walked in. Gimme your cell number and I’ll have him call you.”}

Callie gave Tony her number; two seconds later Biff called. Glancing to check on Miracle, Callie saw her a few feet away. Getting her attention, Callie quietly told Miracle what was going on.

“Someone’s following us?” Miracle tried to see who could be following them.

“Pretend you don’t know anything is happening!” Callie whispered. “Biff and Tony are upstairs; they’re going to make sure that I’m just imagining things.”

“What are we going to do?”

“We’re going to walk out into the mall and pretend everything is just peachy!” Discreetly putting the phone back to her ear. “You got that, Biff?”

{“Loud and clear, Callie!”}

The two girls walked out of the store. Miracle searched for Minerva as they walked towards a bench and sat down.

Biff and Tony hung over the railing, seeming to be joking with each other as they kept a close eye on the girls.

“There he is,” whispered Tony.

“I see him.” Biff adjusted the ear piece to his phone. “We see him, Cal…and you were right…Tony’s going to call Frank and Joe.”

Callie thanked Biff, who promised to stay and watch over them. Miracle was getting worried, where was Minerva? She should have shown up by now.

Frank and Joe were heading out to the mall, as they had wanted it to appear that they just happened to be there. Frank’s cell phone rang, and he glanced over at Joe.

“No problem…Hello, Frank Hardy’s cell phone.”

{“Joe, that you?”}

“Hey Tony! Yeah, Frank’s driving and you know he doesn’t like talking on his cell, needs to concentrate!”

{“Great, you’re on the road! Are you anywhere near the mall?”}

“As a matter of fact we’re on our way there now.”

{“Tell Frank to put the pedal to the metal! Callie spotted someone following them…Biff and I went to check it out and she’s right!”}

“We’ll be there in five minutes Tony, and thanks for the heads-up!” Joe clicked the phone shut. “Hit the gas, Frank, Callie spotted someone following her and Miracle!”

Frank only nodded his head as a determined look crossed his face.
