CHAPTER 25

Joe and Frank cautiously entered the house. Pointing towards the kitchen, Joe let his brother know he was going to search that room. Frank indicated he would search the den. A few minutes later they met up at the bottom of  the stairs.

“I’ll go first and look in ‘Nessa’s room, you check Andrea’s. Her room is on the left at the end of  the hallway,” Joe whispered.

“Okay, but be careful!”

As quickly and quietly as possible, the brothers went up the stairs. Joe kept himself in check; he wanted to rush into Vanessa’s room but knew that could be dangerous. He found the door partially open. Pushing it slowly open, Joe peeked inside. He entered the room and began searching for clues. Noticing that Vanessa’s bed was unmade, Joe thought that was odd. He knew that she always straightened her bed up. As Joe approached the bed, he felt a chill of fear course down his spine. Blood. There was blood on the pillow.

“Frank!”

Vanessa and her captor both gasped in fright when they heard Joe’s voice. Vanessa took a deep breath to call out for help. Before she could scream, Vanessa felt a volt of electricity course painfully through her body. The pain was so intense she blacked out.

Allie pulled the stun gun away from Vanessa. She pulled off the ski mask and smiled. He was here! She knew he would come to her! Taking some duct tape out of her pocket, Allie tore off a piece and placed it over Vanessa’s mouth. She had to hurry, before they came back down the stairs. Walking to the other side of the room, Allie found the door that had led her down the basement late last night. She walked out and ran towards her car. One of them would find it soon and she needed to be there.

Frank’s heart skipped a beat when he heard Joe’s anguished cry. He ran out of Andrea’s room.

“Joe, what’s wrong?”

“Blood, Frank, there’s blood on her pillow!” Joe turned to Frank, his face holding a wide range of emotions, with anger and fear the most prominent.

“I’m going to have a look outside; you stay here and see if you can find anything that will tell us who took her. We’ll find her, Joe.”

Joe gave Frank a brief nod, his fists now clenched in anger. “Yeah, and when we do…I’m going to make sure they regret what they did!”

Frank searched the grounds around the house, and came to the door leading down into the basement. Kneeling down, he saw the faint impression of a shoe. The footprints led away from the door. Frank stood up and began following the footprints. Furrowing his brow in a curious concentration, Frank noted that the footprints were rather small.

As he reached the back of the barn, Frank saw the black Saturn.

“That looks like the same car that was casing our house.”

His attention focused on the car, Frank never heard Allie come up behind him. It wasn’t until he felt a sharp pain in his back as a bolt of electricity went through his body, that he realized anyone was there. He sank to his knees, feeling more pain in his shoulder, and fell to the ground. Frank managed to roll onto his back, and saw a girl standing over him. Her auburn hair was pulled back; she held a stun gun in her hand. As she leaned down, holding the stun gun over his chest, the girl smiled sweetly at him as she shot him with an electrical jolt.

Joe didn’t find anything that would help him find who kidnapped Vanessa. He went downstairs to check the rest of the house, giving the house a thorough search. He was getting frustrated; it was as if Vanessa had vanished into thin air! If it weren’t for the blood on her pillow…Joe growled in frustration. He stomped towards the back of the house. Standing in the laundry room Joe spotted a door. He remembered Vanessa telling him it led down to a basement but that she hardly went down there.

Something was telling Joe to go down there. He opened the door and cautiously made his way down the steps. What he saw at the bottom of the stairs made his blood run cold.
