THE CHAPTERS |
As Alice’s kiss intensified, Joe struggled to move away but she had a firm grip on his head and he couldn’t move. When the kiss was finally over, Joe was thankful he hadn’t eaten much at breakfast. Otherwise he would definitely be very sick at the moment. He let out a gasp when Alice gently pushed him back onto the bed and crawled in next to him. Joe tried to move as far away as possible, which wasn’t easy considering he was on a twin bed that was pushed next to a wall. He couldn’t push Alice away due to the fact that he was in a straitjacket. Alice placed Joe’s head against her breasts; she lovingly stroked his hair and caressed his face. “Alice,” Joe cringed when he heard the fear in his voice. He couldn’t let her know how afraid he was. “Won’t…won’t Joanna be upset when she sees me here?” “You don’t have to worry about her…I took care of Joanna…she won’t be bothering us.” “What…what do you mean you ‘took care of Joanna’?” “Sshh…Just be happy that Joanna won’t be bothering us anymore.” Joe gulped in fear; he did not like how that sounded. As he thought about how Alice had ‘‘taken care” of the students she had thought got in her way of Frank…’Frank! What is she tries to hurt Frank this time?’ Alice lay contentedly with Joe, stroking his hair and caressing his face. “We’ll be together forever.” ******* As Fenton and Frank drove onto Gardenia Street, and located the Walker house, they found themselves driving into a crime scene. Frank looked at his father, his face a mask of fear. “Let’s not jump to any conclusions yet, son.” Fenton said with a reassurance he didn’t feel. Fenton parked the car behind the Medical Examiner’s van; he and Frank got out of the car and proceeded to walk up the front lawn. “Fenton…Fenton Hardy, is that you?” Fenton laughed softly when he saw the man who had called to him. Frank turned to see who was hailing his father. He saw a man about his father’s age. The man seemed shorter in stature; though Frank thought he might be around 5’10”. Although his hair had more gray, Frank could see that it had once been red. As Fenton went over to shake the man’s hand, Frank noted that his father seemed to have a trimmer body shape. “Conway, good to see you! I’d forgotten that you transferred to the 15th Precinct.” “That’s Sgt. Conway to you Hardy! I heard that you ventured out on your own. Are you here on a case?” “Not exactly.” Frank stood quietly by Fenton’s side, curious to know who this Sgt. Conway was and how his father knew him. When Conway saw Frank, his eyes went wide with astonishment. “Oh my Lord! Fenton, this can’t be Frank, can it? Why I remember the day he was born!” Fenton smiled proudly. “Yep, this is my oldest, Frank…Frank meet Brian Conway…pardon me, Sgt. Brian Conway. We trained together at the Academy and before the sergeant here transferred, we walked the same beat as well.” “For about a year, but we still kept in touch until family and work got in the way. Wait a minute, did you say oldest? How many kids did you and Laura have?” “Just two, I have another son, Joe. He’s the reason we’re here…he’s missing.” “I’m sorry to hear that, but I still don’t understand why you’re here.” “Last night Frank noticed a dark Saturn parked at the corner near our home. This morning he saw the same vehicle at the home of Joe’s girlfriend. I won’t go into details just yet, but Frank was able to get the license number of the Saturn and we traced it back to Ms. Joanna Walker. We had the unfortunate pleasure of meeting Ms. Walker’s younger sister last year.” Brian Conway didn’t look very happy to hear this bit of news; he also didn’t feel overjoyed with what he had to tell Fenton. “Fenton….I don’t know how to tell you this but…About two weeks ago, Alice Walker escaped from the Glendale mental hospital. We just found her sister…she’s been murdered and I believe Alice is the one who killed her.” Frank closed his eyes; he was remembering a day so long ago when Joe had received a package. Inside was a framed portrait of Joe that Alice had painted. “She has him…oh God, Alice has Joe!” Frank gasped.
