THE CHAPTERS
When Carolyn found out where they were landing, she turned with wide-eyed glee to stare at Mary.
“Bayport,” she whispered. “We’re going to Bayport?”
“Yes, very good camping grounds there. Plus I have friends there who will lend us a tent and some sleeping bags.”
“But…but…will it be safe?”
Mary patted Carolyn’s hand. “Very safe.”
Carolyn was still a bit worried. “Mary, Chet isn’t in any trouble is he?”
“No, he’s fine. I made a promise to him and now that promise must be fulfilled.”
“A promise, what kind of promise?”
Mary smiled down at Carolyn. “Never question the will of the spirits. It is their wish for you to be here.”
Carolyn wanted to ask her if she would see Chet, but was afraid to. But Mary saw the question on her face. “Yes, you will see him.”
“Thank you!” Carolyn gave Mary a fierce hug.

Callie walked over to Frank, glaring at him as she approached. “Frank Hardy, fine boyfriend you are! You were supposed to call me this morning, and when you didn’t, I find out that you’d rather be with Chet than with me!”
Joe and Chet were trying not to smile as Callie advanced on Frank.
“Don’t think you’re not in any trouble, Joe!” Vanessa stated sternly.
Joe’s mouth dropped open in astonishment as he heard Chet snort with glee. Frank stepped off the front porch and met Callie half-way.
“Callie, I’m sorry I forgot to call you. Joe and I had a surprise for Chet and we wanted to give it to him right away.”
“A surprise, what kind of surprise?”
“They’re taking me on a camping trip!” said Chet.
Vanessa, who knew how worried Joe had been about his friend, gave her boyfriend a quick kiss. “Oh, that’s so nice of you! Okay, you’re forgiven.”
“Do I have the best girl or what?” Joe beamed.
Although Callie was concerned about Chet also, and knew Frank was too, she wasn’t very happy to hear this news, this; meant that Frank would be gone for several days.
“I don’t know if I like this surprise…no offense, Chet. But…this is the first time in a very long time that Frank and Joe aren’t working on a case! I don’t about Vanessa, but I for one was hoping to spend some time with Frank!”
“We’ll still be able to spend time together when I get back.” Frank tried to soothe Callie.
“Why can’t Vanessa and I go with you?” pouted Callie.
Frank glanced over at Joe who looked at Chet.
“Umm…Callie,” Chet began. “No offense but have you ever been camping before?”
“Sure, lots of times! I go camping with my parents every summer before school starts.”
“I’ve been camping before, Chet.” Vanessa said.
Chet gave the two girls a smile. “Well, that settles it; we got two icky girls going with us!”
Callie and Vanessa stuck out their tongues at Chet who laughed good-naturedly. It was decided that they would leave the following day, giving Callie and Vanessa a chance to get their gear together.
