INTRODUCTION Author’s Name: CQB Title of Story: “With Spring Comes Hope” Type of Story: AU – this story is more about Fenton, a few years after he became a private detective. (Has an unusual preface & epilogue – hope you don’t get too confused.) Rating of Story: Teen Characters in Story: Fenton (36 yrs. old), Laura (32 years old), Frank (7 yr. old), Joe (6 yrs. old), Gertrude (43 yrs. old) & orig. char. {Introduces 17-year-old Jack Wayne} Warnings: {“Casefile”-type Violence; child abuse} Date Story Posted: January, 2006 Plot Blurb: For a homework assignment, seventeen-year-old Joe Hardy writes a story about a piece of Hardy Family history. In Joe’s composition, Fenton helps his father rescue a niece he’s never seen, only to find he’s put his own children in grave danger. Splash Page: As Fenton reached Joe’s bedroom door he glanced back. He took in the sight of his son in slumber’s grip and his heart suddenly ached for the niece he’d never met. He silently prayed that they would find Monica before it was too late. Author's Notes: In my Hardy world, Fenton & Laura met in college; he was a senior and she, a freshman – they fall in love but Fenton leaves for a two year stint in the military. He comes back, goes into police work and they get married – five years later, Frank is born. I know nothing about Canadian police work, thus I’ve written the “cop talk” in an American slant. I debated about researching and using Canadian terms, but decided the story would be more understandable if I stuck to the more familiar American terminology. Special Dedication: This story is dedicated to Christy Flournoy: Sometimes we travel through valleys Cold and dark as a winter night; We grow weary and want to quit, Losing our desire to fight. Don’t give up, keep pressing onward My friend, I’m sending you a rope. I’ll keep holding my end but please Hold tight to this braided hope. For winter always passes And spring follows close behind; And when you emerge from the valley I’ll be waiting… Holding my end of the line.
