Splash Page: Silence fell in the room as they both stared at each other. Finally Newman crossed his arms across his chest and leaned back in his chair, “Come on, ask.”

Taken aback, Fenton raised his eyebrows, “Ask what?”

“The question that keeps you wondering,” he replied, still smirking. “The one that won’t leave that head of yours since yesterday.”

Fenton thought for some moments. “Why?” he finally asked. “Why didn’t you do anything to him? Why didn’t you kill him?”

The smirk on the man’s face became broader with satisfaction. “Didn’t I?” he said quietly, leaning down to look the detective in the eyes.
