Meanwhile, back at the cabin,
Frank was starting to become worried. "Now, he should have gotten here by
now," he announced.
"What could have happened?" Phil asked. "He could have had a flat tire," Tony suggested. "He knows how to fix a flat tire, and we have an new tire as a spare and not a donut," Frank replied. "Well, it shouldn’t be anything mechanical," Biff commented. "I watched you and Joe go over the van with a fine tooth comb yesterday." "So, what are we going to do?" Chet asked. "We can follow the access road to the place where we left the van," Tony suggested. "But, what if we are overreacting?" Chet asked. "Then we’re overreacting," Frank said. "I am not taking any chances." Everyone of his buddies, knew that tone of voice in Frank, whenever he was worried about his brother, and he had decided on a course of action, he never wavered, and they learned to follow his lead, and he usually was right.
They set off down the road, that accessed the cabin, after they locked the door back up. "I still can’t figure out, what might be keeping him?" Biff finally asked. "I don’t know," Frank answered. "I am sure he has a good reason." And he did, it wasn’t like Joe to let him worry about this. He checked the cell-phones, they did have a signal here. He would have called if he was able to.
* * * * * "Stop it! You’re hurting him!" Brad ordered Pete and Billy. "Not until he tells us where his brother is," Pete replied, about ready to hit Joe again. "He’s back at the cabin," Brad finally answered, he caught the look that passed over Joe’s face, but he knew they would continue, and Joe would continue to resist them. "What cabin?" Billy asked, looking at both Brad and Joe. "The directions are in the van," Brad replied. Billy got up, while Pete continued to watch the boys. A few minutes later, "I found it," he shouted. "It’s only about ten miles down the other access road." "Well, looks like we have a place to hide for the night," Pete announced. "Put these two in the van." "What about his brother?" Billy asked, referring to Joe. "What about him?" Pete sneered, "if he doesn’t want his brother hurt, he’ll cooperate." "Sounds good to me, but what if he’s not alone," Billy interjected. "Let’s find out," Pete said. He walked over to Joe and Brad. "Is it just your brother and you?" Joe just glared at him, he wasn’t about to answer any questions, this man had to ask, he knew he was being foolish, being so stubborn, but he was hoping these men would just take off in a different direction and he could figure a way out of this mess later. "I guess we’ll find out when we get there, unless he’s worried about you, then we’ll meet him on the way," Pete said simply. "Billy, help me get him in the van." Pete and Billy loaded Joe and Brad into the van and took off down the road.

Frank, Biff, Chet, Tony and Phil continued they ten-mile trek down to the parking lot where they left the van. When they got about 3 miles down the road, they heard a vehicle coming down. "Hey, that sounds like your van Frank," Chet said. "Maybe we were worried for nothing." "Better be safe than sorry," Frank said. "I am glad that he finally made it." It was only a matter of seconds before the van became visible from around a bend in the road a few hundred yards ahead. "Joe," Frank shouted. Trying to get the attention, but something about the way the van was driving, didn’t look right, when the van got close enough in the waning light of the evening, Frank noticed something not right about the driver and passenger of the van, he scrutinized the occupants, he realized that their hair was shorter than Brad and Joe’s. "Hide," Frank shouted to his friends. The others retreated to the side of the road, the van passed them without stopping, confirming Frank’s suspicions. "Frank," Biff said, "That wasn’t Joe or Brad in the van. "Where could they be?" "I don’t know," Frank said, "Evidently whoever is driving the van ambushed them when they got to the van, and Joe disengaged the alarm." They were several moments of silence. They were trying to decide whether to go back to the cabin to confront the people who were evidently in possession of the van, or see if Joe and Brad were still near the parking lot, possibly seriously injured.
