Frank and Joe looked at each other. "That’s a pretty tall order, Mr. Barrett," Frank said slowly.

"Ah, come on, Frank!" Joe stared at his brother pleadingly. "It’s been ages now!"

"Three months does not qualify as "ages", Joe," Frank told him, with a hint of a smile. Joe was itching to solve another case, and, Frank finally admitted, he was too.

"Well?" Joe prompted.

"Alright! Let’s get started."

The group retired to Kurt’s dressing room where they could have some privacy, and Kurt made a list of all the people he could think of who might want to hurt Clancy.

On seeing the list, Frank let out a low whistle. "That’s some list."

"Clancy has that effect on people sometimes. He has a hot temper."

Joe looked at the list over Frank’s shoulder. "Obviously."

Frank pulled out the list he’d made while talking to Sam Wilkins and compared it with Kurt’s. Then he looked up. "Well, Mr. Barrett-"

"Please, call me Kurt," Kurt interrupted.

"Kurt, we do have a few suspects now." Frank laid his list on the table. "Why would these people want your brother out of the way?"

Kurt looked at it closely. "He dated Olivia for a little while before he graduated from Juliard. Shes the one that broke it off though, not him. As for her brother, you’d have to talk to her."

"Why her?" Joe asked. "Couldn’t we just ask him?"

"You’ll get further with Olivia, trust me. Mr. Coleman just doesn’t like Clancy. They’ve fought over every little detail of this show."

Frank and Joe exchanged glances. That wasn’t exactly a motive for murder. Attempted murder, Frank reminded himself. "What about the conductor, Benjamin Whittington?"

A fleeting glimpse of what resembled fear flashed through Kurt’s eyes. "He is not a man that you cross. He’s ended many a promising career for simply looking at him the wrong way."

"Your name will not come up," Frank promised.

With that assurance, Kurt continued, but his voice was lower in volume. "Mr. Whittington is very unpredictable. Has been ever since his son died."

Frank held a hand up. "His son died? How?"

"He commited suicide after Clancy beat him in a competition their junior year."

"They were classmates at Juliard?" Joe asked.

Kurt nodded. "They were actually friends for a little while. I think Whittington told them to knock it off though. He changed rather suddenly." Kurt paused. "Do you actually think Whittington could have done this?"

"At this point, anything is possible," Frank told him.

Just then, there was a knock on the door, and Evan Williams poked his head in. "Excuse me, Mr. Barrett. The police would like to speak with you."

Kurt stood up. "You can stay in here as long as you like. No one will bother you." And with that, he disappeared with Evan.

As soon as the door was closed, Joe looked at Frank. "I think it’s Whittington," he declared.

"So do I," Frank agreed. "But we still have to rule the others out and find proof."

"How are we going to do that?" Becka asked.

"First, we ask questions. We can cross Oliver off the list, and we’ll save Whittington for last. Joe, you and Van talk to Ms. Moreau, and Becka and I will take Mr. Coleman."

Joe nodded. "Sounds like a plan." He stood and took Vanessa’s hand, then the two disappeared in search of Ms. Moreau.

"Are you sure that was such a good idea, sending Joe off with Ms. Moreau as his objective?" Becka asked, with a hint of teasing in her voice.

"Vanessa will keep him in line," Frank assured her, smiling. "Now, what say we hunt down Mr. Coleman and see what we can dig up?"

"Lets," Becka agreed. The two linked arms and strode off in search of one Mr. James Coleman.
