What happened now? Frankenstein-ed. Frankenstein stared at the pale-haired pale Human before him. He had been following that Human around for the last half hour. It had been an eye opening experience. The Human actually enjoyed solving puzzles! The Human was not focusing on destroying Ghouls and destroying the environment! This Human solicited his assistance with solving puzzles! It went against everything he was taught in his history class. All Cultured and Civilized Ghouls knew that during the 10,000 years when Humankind ruled the Earth, ghouls were persecuted and hunted almost to extinction. For some reason, ghouls were persecuted for consuming the dead rather than killing live ones for consumption. Humankind was cruel and they tortured each other if they did not share the same skin color. White-skinned enslaved black-skinned while yellow-skinned robbed red-skinned into poverty. Humankind had abused nature and defiled the entire Earth eco-system before they finally fought themselves into extinction in the Great Nuclear War in the year 2222 AD, approximately a thousand years ago. However, there were still rumors of small enclaves of surviving Humans surfacing every now and then. Yet, here before him was a Human who called him ‘brother’. This Human had shared his fun with him, and showed concern for him. This Human cared for him! Frankenstein marveled at that concept. Wait a minute; before he landed here he was somewhere else. And the Humans in that somewhere else clearly hated him. But this Human here cared for him. And some of the other Humans he met here also smiled at him. How strange! This was just all too strange for his recycled brain at the moment. He could not wait to get home to tell his father and brother and mother all about his adventures. He was certain they would be very interested in the different type of Humans he encountered. He eyed the young lad before him. ‘Joe’, he remembered others calling him Joe. And Joe called him ‘big bro’ and ‘Frank’. ‘Frank’, Frankenstein tried the sound of that name on his thick tongue. He decided he liked the sound of that name. He was sure his family would love it too. He frowned. Would he ever be able to get home again? He felt fear that he might never. Then he felt sadness that he might never. Still, he must continue to gather information as befit his dream of becoming a Professional Investigator. He must find out what made the Humans of this world so nice, and also so accepting of Ghouls and other non-Human beings. Perhaps one day Ghouls and Humans could live in peace again. Something caught his attention. A tall Human wearing a mask was heading towards them. He did not like the aura of that Human. It was dark and slimy. That Human was up to no good, he was certain. He was right. The tall masked Human lifted his arm and pointed something at Joe. It was some sort of a projectile weapon. He could sense from Joe’s aura that he was afraid of that weapon. He knew without doubt that weapon could cause irreparable harm to the Human. For a second, he pondered his actions. “Your father refused to back off despite repeated warnings. So the Boss sent me to pick off one of his sons. No discrimination here, Blondie, I found you first. Goodbye, Joseph.” he heard the masked Human say in a deadpan voice. And Frankenstein realized he had no choice at all. His upbringing dictated what he must do. He disengaged his left arm and stepped before Joe, shielding his new friend from the incoming projectile. He felt the searing heat as the projectile buried itself next to his heart. Yowch! He grunted. Why do Ghouls always have to suffer for good deeds? “FRAANNK!” He heard Joe scream in pain and in terror. “NOOO!” His heart warmed. I actually found a Human who cared! he thought happily. What an achievement for an Amateur Investigator. He could see the Board upgrading his AI status to PI status already. At the same time, Frankenstein flung his left arm at the masked Human with his right arm. The heavy deadweight of the arm swung across the open space and hit the wicked masked Human on the head. The masked Human sank to the ground like a sack of yummy carcasses. But not before Frankenstein saw that look of sheer terror in his eyes. He grunted in deep satisfaction. All in a night’s work, he thought happily. Frankenstein stared at the masked Human for a short while till he ascertained that the Human was still breathing. He sighed in disappointment. He was not getting a free dinner after all. He had hit the Human in defense of an innocent, but he was not permitted to kill for sustenance. Oh well, he could ask his new friend where dead bodies were kept, and if necessary, he could sustain his life with chlorophyll in the meantime. He reached over to pick up his left arm and easily affixed it to his shoulder. Then he forced the bullet out of his body. Finally, he turned to face his new friend, who was staring at him with a look of stunned disbelief. He tilted his head at Joe and said, “Don’t worry my friend, that mad Human cannot hurt you again. I won’t let him. My name is Frankenstein, and I am happy to know such a nice Human like you, Joe.” Then Frankenstein realized Joe looked a little on the pale side, so he added: “You looked jaundiced. That cannot be healthy. You need more chlorophyll. As an Amateur Investigator, I seriously recommend a diet of three-fold spinach to dead meat for a fortnight so you can regain your healthy green complexion. It is also important that your dead meat is fresh – newly dead and not slaughtered dead. Slaughtered meat has a negative aura that is bad for your mental health.” To Frankenstein’s amazement and hearty approval, Joe’s face turned a healthy shade of green….
