But fate has other plans-- Splash Page: She couldn't have explained the feeling, she just knew..."He's gone, isn't he?" she asked Merlin. The cat stalked off, his tail straight up in the air. Casi grunted and thumped her purse on the countertop. "I didn't tell him to leave, cat. Casi turned to the refrigerator to scrounge up supper when she heard a noise at the front door. The doorknob rattled and she heard the distinct click of a key in the lock. Startled, Casi reached for one of her butcher knives and started for the front door. It swung open as she came through the dining room. "I've got a knife and I know how to use it. I've called the police." "I believe the first but doubt the second." Casi let out a sigh. "Damn it, how---?" She looked at the row of key hooks. "You took my house key?" "Borrowed would be the operative word." Joe hung the key on its hook. "Can you maybe put down the knife?"
