And there’s a big dance on Valentine’s Day. Then the first murder occurred... Splash Page: The van responded sluggishly as the dump truck came closer, charging like the proverbial angry bull. Suddenly, the van jumped backwards and Frank shifted his foot from the accelerator to the brake. The dump truck roared past with inches to spare. Joe took a deep breath. “That was too close.” Frank tried again to turn but the front wheels wouldn’t budge. “Joe, can you see what’s wrong?” Joe winced as he unbuckled. “I’m going to have a doozy of a bruise in a few hours.” He got out of the van and bent down to check the wheels. Before he could tell Frank to switch off the four-wheel drive, he saw the dump truck returning. He yanked open the passenger door. “Get out.” Frank unbuckled and practically jumped out of the passenger side. He and Joe ran for the ditch but this time the dump truck was coming at an angle. He hit the van just behind the driver’s side back wheel well, shoving the van forward. “Jump the ditch!” Frank shouted as he realized what the driver was trying to do.
