"Does this look like turkey to you?" Joe undid the lid of the storage container and sniffed. "Ugh." Frank looked over at his brother. "Getting tired of turkey?" "We've had it for a week now." Joe put the storage container back into the refrigerator. "That's the only bad thing about after Thanksgiving." "And just think we'll do this all over again for Christmas in just a few weeks." "Remind Mom to go with ham instead." Frank rolled his eyes. "Did you call Vanessa?" "Yes. She said she'd get it from me tomorrow after school. Wonder how long it's been back there?" "At least since last Friday. That's when we took them to the mall." Frank sat down at the kitchen table and began to eat his sandwich. "How could I forget? Who gets out of bed to go shopping at seven in the morning?" Joe rummaged in the cabinets, finally finding some honey buns. He took two out of the package and sat down at the table. "Callie talking to you again?" "She was just upset I didn't call her. What do you expect? Vanessa said the same to you." Frank looked over at his brother. "What?" "Dad's been gone a few days now. How long was this trial supposed to last?" Frank lifted one shoulder in a shrug. "I don't know. You worried that this Mafia don will go free?" "Jail didn't stop him before." "He was under house arrest, not in jail." Frank finished off his turkey sandwich and sighed. "Dad told me when he found out." Both boys heard the front door open. Frank frowned. "Mom said she wouldn't be home till five." Joe bounced up, stuffing his second honey bun in his mouth. "It's Dad," he mumbled, his mouth full. Both brothers raced to the foyer to see Fenton setting his suitcases down on the floor. He looked up to see them hurrying in his direction and held up his hands. "Whoa. I think I need to post speed limits in the hallway." Frank grinned. "Well?" "Corsini got murder one." Fenton glanced at Joe and his smile faltered slightly. "I met the other witness, Harry Leiker. He looks a lot like you." Joe frowned. "There's lots of guys with blond hair and blue eyes." Fenton shrugged. "Maybe you should see for yourself." He pushed the door open wider to show a tall, broad-shouldered man standing on the porch. He had a trim gold beard and his hair was long, touching the edge of his collar. He looked at Joe and frowned. He looked at Frank and his frown deepened. Fenton turned to see the man's expression. "Is something wrong?" "Just a case of déjà vu." He extended a hand. "You must be Joe; I'm Harry." Frank studied him for a long while. "My dad says you're a thief." Harry laughed. "To quote a friend, I liberate other people's stuff." He nodded. "Nice to meet you." He sketched a wave and walked toward the street and the taxi idling there. Joe watched him for a moment. "He has shifty eyes." Joe frowned. "Wait, does that mean I have shifty eyes?" Fenton chuckled. "I wouldn't worry about it, son." Joe turned to watch his father head upstairs. "That's not what I'd call a satisfactory answer." "I wouldn't worry, son," came Fenton's voice. "It just means you're more convincing undercover." Frank started laughing. "That is so true. Always wondered about that." "Keep it up and I'll crash your computer." "You don't know how to crash a computer," said Frank as he watched his brother head up the stairs. "You're computer-challenged. Joe.." Joe let out his evil Freddy Krueger laugh. "Nothing shall save your computer now." "Joe, I have homework on that computer. Joe..!"
