Nancy, Ned and Callie were still sitting at the table an hour later when Joe returned. He sat down beside Callie in Frank’s seat. He said, "I want to apologize for before. I shouldn’t have said what I did." "It’s all right," Nancy said. "We could have been less accusing, too." "So, where’s Frank?" Joe asked. "He went looking for you," Ned answered. "He felt bad about what happened." "I’ve been thinking about what you said and you guys have a point." He put his elbows on the table. "I don’t usually don’t jump in without looking to see if there are sharks in the water." "You believe there’s good in everyone, but sometimes the bad covers up the good," Nancy said. "Is the doctor sure they guy died from a head injury?" "From his examination, that’s what he’s listing as the cause of death," Ned said. "So, there’s still the possibility Victoria is in danger," Joe said. "It’s possible," Nancy said. "I know Frank brought his computer," Joe began. "I wonder if he got any information yet." "Not yet," Nancy said. "He was having a problem connecting with land." "Hopefully, it’ll connect soon," Joe said. "Once it does, we can have Frank get the information we need." "Joe, where did you go when you left here earlier?" Callie asked. "Back to our room," Joe said. "I knew it would be the last place anyone would think I’d gone." They sat for a little while and Callie said, "I don’t like this. Frank’s been gone too long. He should’ve come back if he hadn’t found you." "Why don’t we go look for him?" Joe suggested. "We’ll meet back at our room in an hour." "Sounds good," Nancy said and left the table with Ned. * * * * * Nancy and Ned searched for 20 minutes without any luck. They hoped Joe and Callie had found Frank. They just couldn’t understand why they couldn’t find any sign of him. Ned suggested, "We might as well check by the pool." They were almost there when they heard a loud splash. Nancy said, "Someone is still swimming, but I doubt it’s Frank." "Let’s check it out anyway," Ned said. As they walked to the edge of the swimming pool, they could see someone floating facedown in the water, unmoving. Nancy dove into the water, fully clothed, and swam to the person. After flipping the person onto their back, she wrapped her arm around the person’s chest and swam back to the edge. She heard Ned say, "Oh no, it’s Frank!" |
