Frank slowly regained consciousness with
his head throbbing. He forced his eyes open and realized he was sitting
in a chair. A single light bulb dangled above his head. Due to the light,
he couldn’t see where he was or if there was anyone in the room with him.
The room seemed like the one at the top of the staircase. Looking closely
to his chair, he saw his forearms seemed to be secured to the chair arms,
but there was nothing holding them in place. Frank attempted to move his
legs and when he couldn’t, felt they were also secure.
Movement in the room got Frank’s attention. He saw the cloaked individual step into the light, but he couldn’t see the person’s face. "Let me go," Frank said. "This isn’t right. You have no right to hold me." Frank watched as the figure moved back into the shadows and another light was turned on. Frank saw wires were attached to an electrical box. Squinting his eyes, he saw the switch was in the off position. The figure took the wires and moved slowly toward him. The wires were attached to his chest. "No," Frank said realizing what was going to happen. He was going to be electrocuted. "You can’t do this. You can’t do this to me." The cloaked figure remained silent as the work was continued. Frank struggled to get out of the chair, but couldn’t. "Why are you doing this?" Frank asked. "What have I done to you?" Frank tried to squash the fear he was feeling, but couldn’t figure a way out. He was stuck. "Joe! Where are you?! Joe! Answer me!" The cloaked figure moved back to him and shoved a rag in his mouth. The figure moved a pointed finger as if saying his screams were wrong. Frank watched as the figure continued connecting the wires to the chair. He was more confused than ever before. He knew he had been at the party, then everything went black, but he couldn’t remember how he had gotten there. It didn’t make sense. Okay, I have to think this through, he thought. There has to be some reason for this. There is no way I could vanish without the others realizing it. They probably noticed right away that something was amiss and are now searching for me. Joe won’t let me down. He will find me and get me out of this contraption before this guy does the deed he is planning. A tapping on his head interrupted his thoughts. Turning, he saw the cloaked figure standing in front of him pointing at a board with a photograph of his family and friends. Another board was lifted in the air with the words: "Say good-bye to your family." Frank watched the cloaked figure move over to the electrical box and put a hand on the switch. He could feel the perspiration running down his neck to his back. He felt his chest tighten as he realized he was not going to be getting out of there. He was tapped with no where to go. Closing his eyes, he thought, Mom and Dad, I love you both so much. And Joe too. I can’t believe this is happening. I wish I could have found a way out of here to get back to you, but I couldn’t. Joe, I hope you will take my place and look out for Mom and Dad. Something crashed to the floor forcing Frank to open his eyes, hoping someone had come to rescue him. But it was just him and the cloaked. As his gaze landed on his abductor, he watched him hit the switch, then felt a searing pain. Then nothing. Please visit our sponsor |
