That night, Joe
drove them to the party in the van. Frank was in the passenger seat
beside him with Nancy and Ned in back. Frank was still pale, but he was
feeling better. They were all
dressed for the party. Nancy was dressed as a princess in a blue gown and
Ned was her prince in a blue suit. Joe was dressed as a clown with a
multi-colored wig and Frank was dressed as the grim reaper in a long
black cape. “I thought
Callie wanted me to go as a prince,” Frank said, pushing the hood off
his head. “I never thought this would be my costume.” “What will
Callie be?” Nancy asked. “You said your costumes would go
together.” “I don’t know.
Callie could be wearing anything.” “Is Vanessa
going to be at the party?” Nancy asked. “Yeah,” Joe
said. “She’s also going as a clown.” He shook his head. “I
can’t believe she chose these.” “But you look
cute,” Nancy said with a grin. “I look
ridiculous,” Joe said, pulling into the driveway. They got out of
the van and went inside. There were chairs scattered throughout the
house. There was a band in the front room playing. There was a place set
aside with drinks and snacks. A slow song stared
and Nancy pulled Ned into the middle of a group of dancers. After the
song ended, Nancy and Ned made their way to the outside of the dancing
circle. They found Frank and Joe sitting at a table. They sat with them. As Nancy looked
around, she saw there were pumpkins scattered throughout the house. There
were cobwebs with spiders hanging in each doorway. Lights were strung on
the windows and on the walls. Nancy turned so
her back was to the dancers. She thought, this is nice. It’s been a
long time since we hung out together and had some fun. At that moment,
Nancy noticed some movement at the door. She stretched her neck to see
what it was. She saw it was a woman in a long black dress with long black
hair. She had a feeling she had seen this woman before. Nancy realized the
woman was the one who put a spell on Frank. She looked at Frank and Joe.
They were staring at her. “What’s
wrong?” Frank asked. She looked back at
the door. She saw Frank and Joe also look. She saw the woman was
approaching them. She said, “We need to get out of here.” “We’ll go the other way,” Joe said.
