CHAPTER 17

That evening, Frank returned to the hospital with Joe, Callie and Vanessa. He headed up to Nancy’s room while the others went to the gift shop. When he reached the floor, he saw Ned standing in the hall by a closed door.

Frank made his way toward Ned. Ned looked at Frank when he reached him. Frank asked, “Can we talk?”

“Sure. What’s up?”

“I want to apologize for what I said the other night. I was frustrated with the situation and tried to hurt you. I know I was wrong and I’m sorry.”

“I accept your apology. You were getting your feelings out. I’m glad you did what you had to do. Nancy wouldn’t be here now if it weren’t for you.”

At that moment, the door to Nancy’s room opened. A doctor stepped into the hallway and said, “You can go in now.”

Ned looked at Frank and nodded his head. Ned pushed the door open and Frank followed him in. They could see Nancy was slightly propped up in bed. Her right arm was in a cast. Her arm was also in a sling. Her face was pale, but the color was slowly returning.

Nancy looked at them as they walked into the room. She as she said, “I’m glad you’re here, Frank.”

Frank and Ned moved over to the bed. Ned went around to the other side and sat down beside Nancy.

“I wanted to make sure you were all right,” Frank said.

“I’m feeling better.” She looked at Frank. “Can you tell me how you found me?”

“I couldn’t give up. And I didn’t I found footprints and followed them into the woods. I was then hit on the head. The next thing I knew, I was on the floor in that building. Then I found you on the bed.”

“I wonder how I got there,” Nancy said.

“The man who was there got you to the building.” Frank explained to Nancy and Ned what the man had told him.

When he finished, Nancy said, “I just wish I could remember.”

“It doesn’t matter,” Frank said. “You’re back where you belong. That’s all that does matter.”

“That’s all right,” Ned said.

There was a knock on the door. Nancy said, “Come in.”

The door opened. Joe came in with Callie and Vanessa. The two girls had their hands behind their backs. Joe moved over to the bed and gave Nancy a kiss on the cheek.

“It’s good to see you,” Nancy said.

“I‘m glad you’re okay.”

Callie and Vanessa came forward. They each pulled out a plant and set them on the table. Nancy said, “Thank you.”

“We thought you’d need something to brighten this place up,” Vanessa said.

“They’re beautiful.” Nancy smiled. “I’m surprised all of you were still here.”

“We weren’t going to leave,” Callie said. “Frank was determined to find you.”

“I’m glad I was found.” Nancy looked at Frank. “Do you know if the man has been here?”

“I don’t think so,” Frank said.

Nancy sighed. Ned said, “We should probably let Nancy get some rest.”

“You’re right,” Joe said.

“We’ll see you later,” Vanessa said and they headed for the door.

“Frank,” Nancy said making him stop. He turned and looked at her. She motioned for him to comeback to the bed while the others left the room. Frank moved back to the bed.

Once the door was closed, Nancy said, “I want to thank you for finding me.”

“You don’t need to thank me. I always help my friends.”

Nancy took her left hand and took Frank’s hand in hers. She said, “I need to thank you.” She looked at Ned, the back at Frank. “It’s because of you that I’m back here with Ned. You were the one who brought me back.” Nancy pulled Frank close and gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Thank you.”

“No problem,” Frank said standing up straight. “I’ll see you later.”

Nancy smiled at he left the room. Frank stepped into the hallway and saw the others were waiting. Frank said, “Let’s go get something to eat.”

The others agreed.
