Plot Blurb: Laura’s sister has invited The Hardy’s to Colorado, but she and Fenton had already made arrangements to go to an investigator’s conference. Coming to an agreement, Frank and Joe head to Colorado to see their aunt and cousin taking some friends with them ready to get some skiing done early in the season.

Splash Page: Melissa pushed off and started down the trail. She swerved between other skiers daring him to keep up. Frank followed as close as he could. The trail made a sharp left turn. Frank watched Melissa take the turn and caught some movement, something black in the woods. Then he saw what appeared to be a barrel of a rifle pointed down the trail at Melissa.

He put on a burst of speed hoping to reach Melissa before the gun went off. He knew he had a better chance of reaching Melissa before the man in black fired. He skied up beside Melissa and yelled, "Get down!"

As Melissa crouched down, Frank heard the gunshot. All of a sudden, he felt a searing pain in his upper right arm. He tried to ski along and stay on his feet, but the pain became too intense. He slipped on the snow and collapsed. As he blacked out, he saw the man in black ski past.
