"Call for an ambulance!" Michael
yelled.
Joe tightened his hold on David even more, aggravated this had been done to his brother. As security arrived with Seth, Joe pushed David to them. He said, "David kidnapped my brother and is probably responsible for a bunch of other incidents." "He’ll have to come with us," the one guard said. "I should’ve killed Frank when I had the chance!" David yelled. "I should’ve kept ramming Jeremy on the track!" "We’ll call the police," the security guard said and they took David away. At that moment, the medics pulled up to them and climbed out. An ambulance was also coming toward them. The crew, Joe and Seth stepped back from the car to give the medical personnel a chance to take care of Frank. After a few moments, Frank was lifted out of the car. He had a white brace around his neck that almost matched the color of his face. Frank was set on the stretcher. In the sunlight, Joe could see cuts on Frank’s face. Joe glanced at Seth and saw he was just as concerned. Seth looked at Joe. "I really didn’t expect this when I invited you two down here." "It’s all right," Joe said looking back at Frank. "He’ll be fine. Frank is always fine." Joe hoped he sounded reassuring even though he didn’t feel that confident. Joe suddenly noticed Frank’s head was moving ever so slightly. Joe felt relief wash over him and a moment later, Frank’s eyes opened. He could see his brother was confused. Moving close to the stretcher, Joe looked down into his brother’s eyes that showed pain and confusion. He spoke soothingly, "Take it easy, Frank. Everything will be all right." Damon hurried up to the group and asked, "What’s going on?" As Joe filled Damon in, he kept an eye on Frank. When he was finished, the medics said they were taking Frank to the infield care center. "I’ll be there soon," Joe said. "I need to go to the security office." "I’ll go with Frank," Seth offered. "Good. I’ll be there soon." Joe watched as Frank was placed in the ambulance and Seth climbed in beside him. The doors closed and the ambulance pulled away. * * * * * Two hours later, Joe made his way to the infield care center. He had filled the police in on all he knew and David broke down telling them everything he’d done as soon as the officers had stepped into the office. The police had wanted to talk to Frank, but agreed to do it later once they knew he was all right. The police also wanted to talk to Jeremy and Damon. Entering the care center, Joe wondered how Frank was doing. He made his way through the crowd of reporters standing at the doors. Once inside, he saw Seth, Damon and Jeremy waiting. Seth looked up at Joe as he moved toward them. Joe asked, "How’s he doing?" "We don’t know," Seth said. "No one’s saying anything." "Why not?" Joe asked. "Because we’ve been checking him over," a voice said behind Joe. He turned to see a man wearing glasses standing behind him. "How is Frank?" Joe asked. "Frank is banged up, but he’s going to be okay. I’ve already told him that he needs to take it easy for the next couple days. He’s going to be sore and may not want to do too much." "Can I see him?" "This way." Joe followed the man to a curtained area and made his way there. Joe pushed the curtain back and saw Frank stretched out on the bed, apparently sleeping. Some of the color was returning to his face. The bruises were becoming more noticeable on his face and arms. Joe moved toward his brother and Frank’s eyes flew open. "Sorry," Joe said. "I thought you were sleeping." "Just resting." "How are you feeling?" "Sore." "Do you remember what happened?" "I was following the guy. He seemed to be acting like a manager or something." "Mitchell Davis." "That’s his name?" Frank asked. "Yeah." Joe motioned for Frank to continue. "Well, he went to a hotel. Mitchell went into a room, but I didn’t hear anything. I was hit from behind and I guess I blacked out." "Do you know how you got into Jeremy’s car?" "I have no clue. I only remember waking beside it." "Frank?" Joe turned and saw Seth standing by the open curtain with two officers. "They would like to speak with Frank." Joe looked at Frank. "I’ll be back." He headed back to the waiting area with Seth. As they approached Jeremy and Damon, Damon asked, "How’s Frank doing?" "He’s okay, but sore. I’m just wondering how Frank got put in Jeremy’s car." "That is a good question," Jeremy said. "The garage is locked at night," Seth said. "No one should’ve been in there." "David got in there somehow," Joe said. |
