THE SISTERHOOD

Pen Name: Red for solo stories. I’m also one half of The Sisterhood.

Board Name: Alaina

Real Name: Alaina

Age: Over the age of consent!

Location: Delaware

Time Zone: Eastern

What's your Occupation: I started out in retail right after high school; switched to accounting while living in L.A.; veered into medical administration for ten years after moving back to Delaware; went back to school and got my Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and Fitness Management and managed government and corporate fitness centers for ten years then left fitness and joined the ‘family business’ – I came full circle and am back in retail, now managing one of my family’s card and gift shops.

Brief bio: Single, with one ‘child’, Rebel, a 120 pound German Shepherd/Great Dane mix who thinks he is a 5 pound Chihuahua/lap dog. One older sister, two younger brothers, four nieces, one nephew, one great-niece and two parents who have been married for 50 years and still hold hands when they walk together!

When did you start reading the Hardy Boys? Um…. Can’t remember exactly but it was a loooooooooooooong time ago!!

Who started you reading the Hardy Boys? Nancy Drew via my Mom. Mom bought me a Nancy Drew book but I thought it was boring. I saw an advertisement for the Hardy Boys and decided to try them instead. The first book I read was What Happened At Midnight and I was hooked!!!

When did you start writing Fan fiction? About four years ago after much prodding from Joe (aka Joyce, aka hbwgonnabe). I’ve had Hardy Boys stories running around in my head for years and it never once occurred to me to put them down on paper until I stumbled across my first Hardy Boys fan fiction story on the Internet.

Who is your favorite character? What a silly question… JOE, OF COURSE!! (You mean there are other characters???)

What attracts you to the Hardy Boys? I think the relationship between Frank and Joe. I like the mysteries too, but I’m much more into relationships.

What is your favorite Hardy Boys Series? Casefiles, hands down!

What is your favorite Hardy Boys Book? Casefile #80, Dead of Night.

What is your favorite Hardy Boys moment? Waaaaaaaay too many to list them all here, but the first one that pops into my mind is Joe calling Fenton a bounty hunter.

What is your favorite Hardy Boys moment in your own stories? Serious: Joe’s reaction when he finds out Vanessa has been raped in Guilty.  Funny: A tie between Joe trying to convince Fenton to pay for his speeding ticket in Happy Birthday and the whole wipe-off board scene in Consequences when Frank starts throwing things at Joe to express his displeasure!

Who is your favorite original character in your own stories? Keith Rashman. I told him to die at the end of Vanished but he refused. Then I told him I planned to do away with him in At All Costs and he laughed at me; said he had to avenge his brother’s death. At this point, I have no idea if he will ever stop terrorizing the Hardy’s!

How would you describe your fan fic? Over the top, soap opera drama with more angst than is legally allowed.

Which of the Hardy Boys books are you familiar with and/or own? I own all the Blue Spines, all the Casefiles and all the Super Mysteries. I had all the digests/paperbacks when I moved to Virginia back in 1990 but some of them got lost in the shuffle when I moved back to Delaware so I’m trying to reacquire the ones I lost. I’ve recently started collecting the brown tweeds, but only if I can find them at Goodwill or garage sales!

Anything else you would like to add? I’d like to thank all the others who write fanfic for giving me hours of reading pleasure and inspiring me to improve with the incredible quality of their work. And I also want to thank the Hardy Detective Agency – if not for this site, I would have missed out on some very, very special friendships!

Are your stories open for critiquing? No, not publicly. I seek out critiques privately from fanfic writers whose work I admire.
