Pen Name: Phoenix, PHX, *Mellon Board Name: Phoenix Name: Sherry Age (range): Tsk. Tsk. That’s not a nice question to ask a gal. Let’s just say I’m legal and have been for a while! Location: Vancouver, BC (Canada) Time Zone: Pacific (I think) What's your Occupation? Payroll Administrator Brief bio: working mom of three little girls, I was born in Newfoundland but split my youth between there and Ontario, moving to BC a year after I was married. When did you start reading the Hardy Boys? When I was twelve, my brother and I stayed with my grandmother. She had raised 9 boys so had no Nancy Drew. She did however have two Hardy Boys books. Once I met Joe, I was hooked for life. Who started you reading the Hardy Boys? Boredom… and Newfie weather. When did you start writing Fan fiction? Funny that I know, but it was in 2002 just after my youngest was born. Who is your favorite character? Joe Hardy – is there anyone else, lol?? What attracts you to the Hardy Boys? I love the relationship between the brothers. More specifically I am a sucker for a protective older brother and a trouble bound younger one. What is your favorite Hardy Boys Series? Casefiles, only because they have more emotion. What is your favorite Hardy Boys Book? What Happened at Midnight. Hands down. It was the first book I read and it hooked me so it has a special place in my heart. What is your favorite Hardy Boys moment? I’m supposed to pick ONE? Hmmm… Frank finding Joe in the caves in What Happened at Midnight. What is your favorite Hardy Boys moment in your own stories? Ouch. Toughie. When a young Frank jumps off the boat and into Barmet Bay to save a young Joe, after Joe was tossed overboard in ‘Little Heroes’. I think… or was it the whole maple bar debate in ‘Stake-out?’ Who is your favorite original character in your own stories? I have two: A villain. Antoine Rosado in ‘The Collector’. Who wouldn’t love a guy who dressed Joe up in frilly pirate costumes and long boots? And Paul Scott, Laura’s younger brother, in ‘Pawns’. He was just such a sweetie to work with… How would you describe your fan fic? Ooh hard one. I’d have to say they are more about relationships and less about traditional mysteries. My mysteries are more about secrets and goings on between the characters. I also like to think they are unpredictable in some respect. Which of the Hardy Boys books do you own? Too many to list. I am a collector. Anything else you would like to add? Yes. Thank you to everyone who has supported and encouraged me through reviews, emails and in person (aka over the phone, lol)… It has helped me grow as a writer and I hope you continue to enjoy what I write. Thank you! Are your stories open for critiquing? Not really. I have other authors that help me in that respect. * ‘Mellon’s’ first story ‘Sweet William’ was written by my cousin. We became writing partners after that with me writing the stories she came up with. She is now busy with other things but I still write on occasion under that penname when a ‘Mellonish’ plot tickles my brain.
