It took a few minutes, but they finally got
Joe's heart going again, "What's wrong with him?" Frank asked worried,
this is the second time this happened to him and he was seriously worried
about his brother.
"We don't know, but I am ordering a cat scan, there may be more damage to his brain than I originally thought," the doctor replied. "You can come with us, of course." Frank followed the gurney into the room where the cat scan was held, after the scan was done, "Well, is there anything wrong?" "It seems perfectly normal from what we originally thought, I am going to have to run more thorough bloodwork on him," the doctor said. "Didn't you already do bloodwork on him?" Frank asked, curious. "That was only standard, we'll have to test for other substances than what we basically test for," the doctor replied. * * * * * Several hours later, the bloodwork still wasn't back, and Frank was becoming increasingly worried. "How is Joe doing?" a familiar voice asked. Frank turned around, and saw his father standing in the doorway before he came into to room all the way. "They had to revive him several hours ago," Frank informed his father. "What happened? Do they know what caused it?" Fenton asked, sitting down on a chair. "No, they've run a cat scan and everything's fine in his brain, but they're running a more thorough bloodwork on him," Frank said. Just then the doctor came in. "Mr. Hardy, good you're here." "What is wrong with my son?" Fenton asked. "He's having a bad reaction to whatever they drugged him with when they took him, but the good news, is the longer he remains stable and has no major setbacks, he'll eventually get over the worst and should recover from it," the doctor explained. "How long should that take?" Fenton asked. "Well, with his body working on it's own, it should take about a week, but since we know what drug we're dealing with, another forty-eight hours and he should be through the worst of it. His other injuries are healing up fine," the doctor told him. "That's good," Fenton replied. Frank gave an audible sigh of relief as well. The doctor left and Frank turned to his father. "You found out anything?? "Sorry, son, nothing yet." Frank closed his eyes and leaned back in the chair, totally and utterly exhausted. "Frank, are you feeling all right?" "I just have a headache." "When was the last time you actually slept?" Frank opened his eyes and looked at his father. "I'm not sure." Hours seemed to be blending together. "I'm going to go see if the doctor can give you something," Fenton said. "You are exhausted and you won't be doing your brother or yourself any good if you get sick again." "I'm fine, Dad," Frank protested. "I was going to go get something before for the headache, but I didn't have a chance and didn't want to leave Joe alone like you said." "Well, I’ll go see what I can do." As Fenton left the room, Frank leaned back in the chair wishing the pounding in his head would go away. He shivered slightly and knew he needed to take care of himself if he was going to protect his brother. Fenton returned a few minutes later with a nurse who handed him a couple pills to take. After he took the pills, the nurse left and he watched his father settle in a chair across from him. "Frank, go ahead and try to rest. I'll stay here until your mother arrives which should be in a little while." "I'm fine," Frank said and tried to stifle a yawn. He had a feeling the pills he had been given were not for pain, but to make him sleep. "I think you have taken on the stubborn trait of your brother's," Fenton said. "At least try to rest. Your mother may not be happy finding you so tired." "All right," Frank mumbled his eyes slowly sliding shut. He listened as his father got to his feet, and a moment later he felt a blanket placed over him. "Thanks." * * * * * A tight grasp on his arm made Frank sit up slightly, his eyes going wide open, his breathing coming fast. The room was dark, but there was someone in there with him. "It's time you told us what you saw?" a voice asked. "Who are you?" Frank asked. "What do you want?" "We want to know what you saw." The grip on his arm got tighter. "Now tell us." "I don't know what you're talking about," Frank said and struggled to break free of the grasp, but couldn't. "Then we'll do the same to you as we did to your brother." Frank wasn't going to give them the chance. He flew out of the chair he had been sleeping in, but didn't get far when his feet hit something slick and he slipped. He fell onto the floor, his head connecting with the floor making a loud cracking sound. He saw stars and then there was nothing. Let the author know what you think of this story
