"And so, Joe and I are still in danger,"
Frank concluded.
"You are," Fenton admitted. "I know you are not going to like this suggestion, but under the circumstances, I really do think you and Joe should be put into protective custody until these people are caught." "Forget it, Dad," Frank said vehemently. "We're not going anywhere. Besides, I don't think the doctors are going to let Joe go because our lives are in danger. He hasn't even regained consciousness yet." "I understand that, but your safety is my main focus right now," Fenton said. "Your brother was almost beaten to death and you could have been more seriously injured if I had not come in when I did." "Dad," Frank began. "Frank, I really think you should listen to what your father is saying," Laura said. "He is thinking about the two of you, and your safety. I did not like finding out how badly Joe was beaten and then arrive and find you had been knocked out. I know you two like to dabble in the mystery, it's a guarantee that those genes came from your father, but right now, your health and safety are the first priority." Frank stared at his mother and knew she was speaking from the heart. He knew there were many times she had been scared about what he and Joe had been involved with even when she had been told when the case was over. Looking closely at her eyes, he knew she was scared and there was no way he was going to be able to argue his way out of their decision. "Dad, I understand. But, since you think there is a leak at the precinct, don't you think it would be a bad idea letting them know that's where we were going. The leak would just have to pass the information along and then we would be in the same situation as we are now." "Good point," Fenton said after a moment. "But at this time, that's the only suggestion I have." "Couldn't we just wait until Joe comes to before deciding what should be done?" Frank asked. "I don't think the doctors would like the idea of moving Joe when he is still in bad shape." "That's another good point," Laura admitted. "All right," Fenton finally sighed. "For the time being, you will stay here with your brother as he gets better. I will see if one of my contacts, someone I know I can trust, will be the guard outside this room." Fenton looked at Laura. "I think for safety purposes, you should stay here with the boys." Laura smiled at Fenton. "I didn't plan on going anywhere." At that moment, a doctor walked in and ushered the three of them out into the hall so Joe could be checked over. Frank was glad to be on his feet and moving about. His head was still a little sore from where he hit it, but he wasn't going to let it stop him. He was determined to figure out why he and Joe were targets and get this confusing case solved. The door to the room opened and the doctor walked out with a smile on his face. He said, "Joseph is waking up." Let the author know what you think of this story
