As he moved his throbbing head, he let out a groan of pain. He wanted to lift his head, but it hurt more than he had ever felt before. He just wanted to go back to sleep.

"Frank! Talk to me!"

Frank recognized the voice. He mumbled, "Dad?"

"Son, open your eyes."

Frank slowly started to lift his head, but a searing pain exploded at the back of his head. Blackness swallowed him once more.

Frank suddenly became aware at how warm he was. He wanted to cool off but couldn’t move. Forcing his eyes open slightly, he saw smoke all around him and flames. He immediately started coughing as he inhaled the smoke.

"Frank, hang on. I’ll have you free in a moment," a voice said behind him.

Frank knew the voice even though it was raspy. It was his father.

"Dad?" Frank coughed out.

"Yeah," Fenton said and Frank felt his arms fall free. Frank shook his arms for a moment getting the circulation moving again.

"Frank, you need to undo these knots so we can get out of here."

Turning in his seat, Frank reached for the rope holding his father. He struggled with the knot as the smoke grew thicker. He was gasping for air and tears filled his eyes from the smoke.

Just as he was about to admit defeat, Fenton said, "You’ve got it."

Frank released the rope and covered his mouth. His chest felt as if a weight was pressing down on it. The heat in the room was getting unbearable. He felt his father grab hold of his arm and pull him to his feet. "Come on, son. We need to get out of here."

Frank staggered as his head began to swim. He doubted he was going to make his way out of the building. His knees began to buckle and he fell out of his father’s grasp.

"Frank!" Fenton shouted as best he could.

He wanted to push himself up, but his arms and legs were not responding. The smoke seemed to surround him and he was unconscious.
