Since it was the start of the weekend, Joe and Chet took turns watching the only computer lab that was opened. Frank was still recovering from his injuries, so he couldn't assist, and Chet helpfully volunteered to take his place. It was a long weekend for the two boys, as they watched the scientists at work and kept an eye out for any unusual activity. By Monday, everything was back to normal. Frank had placed himself in the computer lab and Joe was making the rounds from Professor Tollington's office to another computer lab. Chet had left the boys to return to work, but not before promising to give them a hand the following weekend. The brothers were grateful for their life long friend's support, after all he had his own life to lead but was willing to put it on hold as usual to help out his friends. On Thursday morning, Joe and Frank had stopped by the office before heading to the university, and found their Dad was already there. "Hey boys," said Fenton. "Morning," said Frank. Joe just mumbled at his father as he sat down in a nearby chair and ran his hands through his hair. Frank knew that his brother was getting frustrated at their lack of progress in finding Jay. He looked over at his Dad and shrugged his shoulders. Fenton looked over at his son. "Son, I know you think you have to find this girl, but don't you think you have spent enough time on this," said Fenton. He knew that Joe had somehow taken this mysterious girl into his heart and wanted to help her, but he hated to see the worry and strain on Joe's face. After all, there was no reason to believe that Jay was in grave danger, perhaps she simply did not want to be found. Frank watched the expression on his brother's face change from frustration to anger as their father spoke. He thought that Joe was going to explode at his father's statement. He knew that Joe was angry at what his father said , but that deep down Joe knew that their was some truth in what his father had said. There was silence for a few moments and then Joe sighed and stood up. "Dad," said Joe shaking his head. "I know you are probably right. It's just that we got to keep trying. I can't give up." "Joe, I know how important this is to you," said Fenton "But I need you here. We have another big case that I need your help, especially since Frank can't help, yet." Frank spoke up suddenly. "Dad, how about a compromise? We finish the week out at least until Saturday. Then we can ask the professor to call us at any sign of her. Okay?" said Frank. Fenton smiled at his older son, and thought about how often Frank had played the role of peacemaker between him and his younger son. "I think that is a great idea." "I do too," said Joe, then father and son grinned at each other. "In the meantime why don't you go ahead and tell us about this other case," said Frank. "There has been a rash of high tech robberies within the last few months. A college friend of Phil has asked for our assistance. His name is Marcus Atherson and his company was supposed to be on the verge of huge discovery that would revolutionize the computer industry. But the information and the prototype were stolen," Fenton explained. "Atherson International is one of the leading computer companies in the world. They were supposed to report their findings by the end of the year," said Frank. He remembered reading about the company in the newspapers over the last couple of months. "That's in four months," said Joe. "Hopefully we can retrieve their stuff before it's sold on the black market." "Or destroyed," Frank added, a worried expression on his face. "I'm sure there are rival companies that want to stop A.I." "What about the other robberies?" Joe asked their father, his mind already beginning to think of possible scenarios that could help solve the mystery. "Each company was hit quickly and very precisely. All the companies have sent over the information we need; employee files, data information, hardware and software information..." said Fenton. "In other words, a lot of papers for us to go through and do background searches," said Frank. "Dad, we can come back later at night and start working on them," said Joe feeling bad about making his Dad do all of this work. "Its okay, Joe," said Fenton. "You can wait until Monday. Just find Jay." "Thanks," said Joe, smiling gratefully at his father. He knew that this case was important but for some reason he couldn't get this mysterious girl out of his mind. The two boys headed towards the door. "See you later Dad" Frank said, turning to follow Joe out the door. "Keep in touch" their father called after them. *** It wasn't until Friday that their luck finally came through. Frank was in the lab, looking through old files and lab reports, hoping that there would be a clue somewhere to Jay's recent activities. He heard a noise coming from near the door of the lab and when he looked up who was walking through the door except Jay! She came in for a minute and talked with the tutor who was sitting at the top of the room correcting papers. Frank slowly slid down behind the bench that he was sitting on so that she wouldn't see him. When Jay went back out, Frank picked up his phone and called Joe to tell him that the mysterious girl had returned. "She is on her way," said Frank. "I guess our little plan worked," said Joe. She had to come back to the labs at some stage. Frank could still here the worry in Joe's voice as he spoke. "Ill wait for you here" he said, "see you in a few." Joe was down at the labs in a matter of minutes and Frank and he discussed what the best plan of action was. They had to confront Jay, but they were also afraid that she might run if she saw them. The girl was obviously hiding something and they had to find out what it was. They decided that the best thing to do would be to surprise Jay, but somewhere that she felt safe, somewhere that she would be unlikely to run from. Fifteen minutes later both boys were in place. From where he stood, Frank could see Jay walking down one of the universities many long corridors and into Professor Tollingon's office. Their instincts had been right. As she entered the office and closed the door behind here, Jay heard a voice and whirled around to face it. "Hi Jay, long time, no see," said Joe.
