Joe didn't think anyone could have that many scars on their back. He could see some where very deep and that they must have been very painful. However he knew that this wasn't the time or place and so quickly regained his composure, deciding he was going to have to find out about those scars later. Jay didn't seem to notice his gasp or the look on Joe' s face, she was concentrating totally on the job at hand. "We are going to do a drop into the hole" Jay explained as she positioned herself. "Do not touch the sides, they are very unstable. When we get near the bottom, we are going to pull ourselves to the side." "Okay, I' m ready," said Joe. The two had no problem in reaching the bottom of the hole. They unhooked from the rope and headed deep into the cave. Joe did exactly what Jay told him to do. As they moved slowly along Joe tried to get Jay to talk to him, but found her to be curt or unresponsive. Most of her answers were very short and to the point. They had gone a good distance inside the cave, when Joe noticed Jay had suddenly stopped. They had stopped at a cave wall. Joe was wondering what they were going to do next, when he saw her pointing to the cave floor. There was a small tunnel. "I will climb through first. You stay here. I am going to need you to pull them through the tunnel," said Jay. Joe nodded and looked on as Jay climbed through the small hole. He saw the light from her flashlight and heard voices. "Vanessa, Callie, Frank!" Joe shouted and ran towards the opening. "They' re here alright," shouted back Jay. She turned her flashlight on each of them. "Are any of you badly hurt?" she asked, looking each of them over quickly. "My shoulder hurts. But I think Frank sprained his ankle and Vanessa hurt her wrist," said Callie. Jay looked over at Vanessa, she could see why Joe Hardy seemed to be so much in love with this girl, she looked so vulnerable and scared. Jay tended to their injuries and helped Vanessa to the opening where she already had a tarp laid out. She helped Vanessa laid down on the tarp and Jay told Joe to pull her through the tunnel. Jay smiled as she heard the noisy reunion on the other side of the tunnel, and then there was silence, as Joe and Vanessa engaged in a long and lingering kiss. After several moments Jay pulled back the tarp, helped Callie onto it and shouted for Joe to help her out. She did the same for Callie. When she started to help Frank, he asked her for her name. "Jay," she said. "Nice to meet you," said Frank, groaning a little as he moved his injured ankle. "I appreciate you helping us. You don' t know how glad I am to see you. Thank you." "Your welcome," said Jay. "Now let' s get out of here." "What about your stuff?" said Frank. "I'll come back and get it later," said Jay. "You want to come back?" Frank looked at the girl incredulously. He never wanted to enter this cave or indeed any cave ever again if he could help it, and here was this girl volunteering to come back. "Its okay" Jay answered. "I have been down here several times." "Why?" "It' s a long story. I can tell you later or you can get your brother to explain it. But right now, I think we better get a move on." "You' re right," said Frank. "If we don' t, then they might come in here looking for us."
