"Now that I think of it," Becky said,
"Vicki hasn’t been home all morning. She left a note saying that she’d be
back later, but she didn’t know when. What do I do now?"
Then there was silence and finally Paul broke it. "I think you should try to get in touch with Vicki. I’m afraid that something is going to happen. He came back a few minutes ago and made another call. I was close enough to hear him mention Vicki’s name. Also, he was headed in that direction." Becky ran back to the table, "I’m so sorry Marisa," she said, "There’s an emergency that I need to leave for right now. Can we do this later?" "Sure," Marisa replied, "I hope everything’s okay. See you later." Becky turned and ran out the door to her car. When she reached her house, she saw Vicki’s car out front and one she didn’t recognize beside it. She only hoped that she arrived on time.
Back inside, Vicki had only had the time to hear the soft clicking of the front door to tell her that something wasn’t right. She stepped inside her house and heard sounds coming from upstairs. They suddenly stopped and Vicki motioned for the others behind her to be perfectly still. After that, the sounds resumed again. A door opened upstairs and Vicki knew what direction it came from then. Her room had the only door that sounded like that. She continued up the stairs and to her room. The door was closed now and no sound came from inside the room. Vicki walked up and gently pushed it open again. The second she did so, someone pulled her inside and slammed the door. The man in front of her was tall with black hair and piercing green eyes. Vicki couldn’t see any weapon on him. He locked the door and moved to the center of her room. Nothing could be heard outside the door. Vicki was beginning to give up on finding an opening when an object hit her window. It was enough of a distraction to direct his attention. Coming in first with a right, she sent a punch in his direction. She came in next with a left, and completely ignored what the doctor had said. He landed back and Vicki quickly pinned him down, not giving him a chance. "Vicki," a voice called up. It was Becky, "Is everything okay? Are you all right?" "Fine," Vicki replied, "Call the cops or someone. I caught some guy in
our house." She heard Becky run into the kitchen, where the phone was.
Vicki got up and unlocked the door, allowing them to come inside, "I believe that this is the man you have been looking for, right?" She handed him over to the two. He was handcuffed and led away, "Do you know what Jim Condo had to do with this?" "He organized the whole thing," the Gray Man said, "He had planned on using his abilities as a doctor and scientist to make copies of different people, like clones." "Was he caught," Vicki asked as C. J, Joe, Frank and Callie joined them, "What about the girl I heard earlier?" "Yes," Vicki’s uncle said, "We caught him and got everything out of him. He will be going to jail for a while. As for the girl, we found her a few miles away. Apparently, she was going to be used for one of their projects. Thankfully, she managed to get away." Vicki’s door opened once again and her father stepped in. He stopped short in surprised, "Brother, what are you doing here?" "Hey Rob," Vicki’s uncle said, "I believe we have some explaining to do?"
"Why though," C. J. asked. It had been a while since Vicki’s father had been clued in. "He was recognized in so many different places, he might of well have been famous. He gave it all up for this project?" "Apparently," Frank said, "I think he did. What doesn’t make sense to me is that he staged his own disappearance. He’s been declared missing. What do you think people will say when they find out that he’s alive and is now a criminal?" "I think they’ll be as surprised as I am," Vicki said, "Even I wouldn’t give it all up for something like this." "I guess he just saw things differently," Joe said, "Maybe he didn’t think it was enough for him. He wanted more and it got him caught."
Hours later, the teenagers were sitting in Ultimate Pizza with Becky and Marisa. This was Frank and Joe’s first time there and they soon saw why the place was so famous. Ultimate Pizza looked more like a diner than a pizza place, but with a more relaxed look to it. Surprisingly enough, C. J. and Callie were beginning to get along now. They had talked some things out and even Vicki had to agree that she didn’t seem so bad. That didn’t change the fact that Callie was not her favorite person. The conversation had been about the case the whole time. "What are you going to do now," Frank asked Vicki and C. J. "We’re going to do nothing," Vicki replied, "After that case, I just want to relax a bit." She turned to Joe then, "That is if you guys are up to it." "Of course we are," Joe answered, "What do you have planned?" "Oh, the usual stuff," C. J. came in, "You know, shopping, get some new clothes…" "Stop," Joe called out, "Anything but that, please, anything but that!" Vicki and C. J. burst out laughing. "All right," Vicki said, "How about video games, action movies, and some food?" "Sounds good to me," Joe replied, "Let’s go." "Hold on a minute," Vicki said, "We’ll only do this on one condition…you’re buying." "What," Joe argued, "Come on girls. Why do we have to pay? Give us a break…" The whole group laughed now as Joe continued on. |
