Vicki sat up straight and threw the sleeping bag off. She then rushed to the front of the tent, intending to unzip the flap. Unfortunately, the zipper seemed to be stuck.

"C. J," Vicki called out, "Find my knife. Looks like we’ll have to slice through this material. Hurry!" C. J. rushed to do the job, but didn’t have a chance. The tent was starting to collapse.

"Where is it, where is it," C. J. asked herself, going through Vicki’s things, "It’s not here."

"What do you mean," Vicki asked and immediately regretted it. She started coughing from the amount of smoke. C. J. was having trouble breathing as well.

"Frank," Vicki called out with every ounce of strength she had left, "Joe! Help!" She glanced over at C. J. Vicki attacked the zipper once again.

Suddenly, an object sliced through the material and Vicki jerked her hand back. She then raced over to C. J, "You get out of here first." Vicki helped C. J. out first and then climbed out herself…just as the tent caved in.

"Are you okay," Joe asked them, putting away the knife he had used, "What happened?" Neither girl answered for the moment.

"We don’t know," Vicki finally replied, "C. J. woke up and noticed the smoke. Then she got me up. The zipper was stuck and my own knife was missing. It’s almost like it was a setup."

"I wouldn’t doubt that," Frank said, walking up. The others were throwing sand over the fire to calm it. Some were even running to get water too, "As of now, everything is possible."

"This guy has to be stopped soon," Joe agreed, "If C. J. hadn’t woken up in time, you wouldn’t have been so lucky."

The four looked over at what was left of the tent. The fire was out now, but the girls had just lost a sleeping place, "Let’s check it out," C. J. suggested, "Maybe we can find some proof that this was arson."

"We don’t need any proof," Vicki said, "There’s no storm outside and we don’t carry anything flammable with us, except for the matches. Why would we set our own tent on fire?"

"Why don’t you just ask Brian," C. J. replied, "I bet he would think we did it ourselves." They reached the tent now and began to look around.

"I found something," Joe declared after a few minutes. Vicki, C. J, and Frank gathered around. Joe held out what appeared to be a lighter. The plastic was melted out of shape, but it was evident what it was.

"That’s how they did it," C. J. suddenly said. She rushed over to where the flap used to be. C. J. carefully lifted it up, "See, the metal on the zipper has been melted. He made sure we couldn’t get out the easy way."

"When is he going to stop," Vicki asked, "Just by doing this he chanced setting the entire forest on fire as well as the other tents."

"He’s a desperate man," Frank replied, "He’ll do anything to get what he wants."

"Exactly what is going on here," a new voice said. They turned to find Brian standing there, "How did this whole thing start?"

"By this," Vicki said, indicating the lighter, "We believe this was a case of arson."

"I knew you girls were going to be trouble from the beginning," Brian said, "Can you believe that some guy came up to me and told me to watch out for you two? I didn’t know he meant for me to watch you so closely."

"Sorry, we didn’t mean to be a bother," Vicki said sarcastically, "Did you call the police? We might need their help."

"There’s no need to bother with the police," Brian replied, "Let me tell you something though. If anything else happens tomorrow, I expect you to head back. Maybe things will be a little less hectic with you gone. I’m giving you one last chance." Vicki and C. J. didn’t answer. They knew he couldn’t really do anything. Jim Condo had officially gone too far and the girls weren’t giving up until he was caught.

"Is everything okay," Kara asked, running up, "Brian had me gathering firewood and I just arrived back."

"There was a fire set to our tent," C. J. explained, "Someone tried to kill us. Where’s the wood?"

"Someone rushed passed me while I was in the woods," Kara said, "They told me something had happened and I dropped the wood and ran back here."

"Kara," Brian called out, "Where’s that wood?"

"Got to go," Kara said, "I’ll see you guys later."

"What do we do now," C. J. asked after Kara had left.

"We watch and see who makes a mistake," Vicki answered, looking out at the campers, "One of them will make one eventually."
