The four ran in different directions, hoping to somehow avoid the stones headed for them. One thing was for sure, the rockslide had been no accident. Vicki glanced up in time to see a shadowy figure climbing around the rocks.

Instantly, she found some hand and foot holds. Mostly safe from the slide, she began to climb up. C. J. noticed this, "Vicki, what are you doing?"

"Someone’s up here," Vicki explained, "Are you coming or not?" C. J. reluctantly followed Vicki up the steep slope.

"Where did he go," C. J. asked, "Did you see which way he went?" Vicki glanced up and pointed off to the right, where a dirt trail could be seen climbing up the mountain.

"I think he went that way," Vicki commented, then paused, "What happened to Frank and Joe? They ran in the other direction."

"I saw them head off into the woods," C. J. replied, "That’s the last I saw of them." The two girls began climbing again, intent on finding this mysterious man.

Frank and Joe raced off into the woods. They had barely managed to catch a glimpse of another figure darting among the trees. Now they definitely knew that two people were involved. Vicki and C. J. had run in the opposite direction, managing to avoid the rock slide as well. Luckily, it wasn’t a large one or it could have had worse consequences.

"Where’d he go," Joe asked, stopping suddenly. The brothers looked around quickly. The path led in two different directions.

"We have to split up," Frank said, "It’s the only way. I’ll take the right and you take the left. Whistle if you find anything." They went their different ways and began to search the area.

Thirty minutes later, the four teenagers returned to camp. No one had even noticed their absence or been awakened by the rock slide from earlier.

"There could be a tornado and these people wouldn’t wake up," Vicki commented, "I guess since the shooting, nothing’s going to make them get up."

"At least we didn’t cause a scene," C. J. said, "I still wish we could have caught that guy. He means serious trouble." The girls had lost track of him after he had darted into a cave in the small mountain. Following him had been no option as they couldn’t see a thing and almost hadn’t found their way out.

"So do we," Joe agreed, "Our guy got away too. I’m beginning to get really interested in this case. What does Jim Condo want so much that he would kill for it?"

"Revenge," Vicki answered, "That’s all he wants, although I don’t fully understand why. I know we destroyed his whole scheme, but it’s not like he gave us much of a choice. We got involved the second we knew what was going on."

"Vicki," someone whispered. Vicki turned around to find Kara standing there, "Come over here."

"What’s going on," Vicki asked, walking over, "Did you hear that conversation?"

"Yes, but not intentionally," Kara answered, "Don’t worry, you’re secret is safe with me. I’d hurry though…Brian called for everyone to be up at six. It’s almost time now." Vicki looked at her watch and saw that Kara was right.

"Thanks for the warning," Vicki said, "We’ll be right there." Kara nodded and walked back to the camp. Vicki ran up to her friends, "We need to get back to camp. Brian’s about to make sure everyone’s present. Come on."

The four hurried back to camp just as Brian was exiting his tent. Soon everyone else was up and packing their things. Vicki, C. J, Joe and Frank were among the first people done. Kara soon joined them.

"Guys, this is Kara," Vicki introduced her to Frank and Joe, "Kara, Frank and Joe Hardy."

"It’s nice to meet you," Kara said, "Sorry I interrupted your conversation earlier. Brian has been giving the girls a hard time lately and I was only helping out."

"No problem," Joe assured her, "Maybe you can help us out instead."

"I was thinking exactly the same thing," Vicki said, "She already knows about our mysteries from Joe and Justin. I say we give her a chance."

"What do you want me to do," Kara asked excitedly, "I don’t care what it is. I really want to be able to help out."

"We just want you to keep an eye on everybody," C. J. told her, "If anyone is acting suspicious, we need to know about it. We believe that someone in this group is telling this man our every move."

Just then, Brian called for everyone to follow him. Everyone set out behind him. The girls had no idea that just then someone was watching their every move.
